In NYC, the feast begins as companies from all over the world show off their products at the 2010 NY Fancy Foods Show which is held at the Jacob Javitz Center. This is the creme de la creme of gourmet food!
For those of you that are in the food business, this is really the highlight of the year when it comes to gourmet foods. In NYC, at the Jacob Javitz Center, there are literally thousands of exhibitors on both floors vying for the attention of buyers from all over the world. This is THE show for food manufacturers and retailers alike! Manufacturers from every country in the world will travel from far away lands and offer samples of their delicately prepared delights.
Here are some of the companies that I saw. I hope you enjoy my virtual tour! Next year, due to renovation, the show will be held in D.C. Although NYC is the capital of the world, D.C. will make an interesting host.
For those of you that adore Mozart as much as I do, this was the ultimate accessory for anyone who not only loves his music but loves Mozart Kugel.

This Mozart Kugel display at the 2010 NY Fancy Foods Show runs for about $150 wholesale. Time to Rondo and break out the Benjamins!
For those of you familiar with NYC’s Little Italy, one of the ultimate tourists attractions is Ferrara’s. There is always a line around the block and probably always will be. Since its beginning in 1892, the spirit has changed very little. Because of the frequency with which they baked, Ferrara acquired a great reputation for freshness. This reputation and the fact that they were devoted to their business enabled Caffé Ferrara to grow and prosper. Today, Ferrara is still a family owned business operated by the fifth generation.
For those of you that LOVE Italian pastries, nothing can be beat than Ferrara’s signature classic pastries!

Sfogliatella Literally "leafy pastry", layers of crispy, paper thin flaky pastry filled with ricotta cheese, farina and a hint of diced candied fruits. "Sfoy-ya-tella", a mouthful to enjoy.
I was pleasantly surprised to find that Cento’s brand Italian products have gone organic!!! Yay! They have just launched their new line of organic extra virgin olive oil, tomatoes and pasta!
Of course, it just would not be a show without my sweet friends from Wholesome Sweeteners! Misti Buard and Karen Stevenson are always great to talk to whenever you want to learn about how sweet organic sugar can be! That goes for agave too!
Another all time fav is Numi Tea!
Here is Michael Winnike, CEO and Founder of Happy Goat Candy Company! Michael has a direct relationship with the farms that he sources his products from and goes through extremes to insure that all of his ingredients are as pure as the driven snow!
For those of you that are into spices, Karla was a wealth of information as far as how difficult it is to source spices in the USA.
Next year, the show will be in D.C. due to renovation at the Javitz Center. While, NYC will always be the center of the world when it comes to specialty foods, D.C. should be fun! See you next year!

Great use of prose and photos on this post. It has a nice flow that made me feel like I actually attended the show. While it would have been great to go, I probably would have eaten myself into oblivion. Particularly with the canollis. 🙂

It’s amazing the more I read and hear about food processing we as a family are choosing now to go organic and EAT only foods that are real.. If you can’t make it in your kitchen then I recommend that you DON’T eat it!
RICH :0)
You need to start bringing me to these with you! These look /good/!
My partner and I enjoyed reading this article. Do you attend and review a lot of shows? I am curious about how organic is received in other countries.
I really like radio, and interview, how do you get this plug in June.
Very informative information. I don’t want to buy any of these products your talking about in the store with these chemicals, kind of scary. Where can i get a list of these foods to avoid?
