Why Don’t These Veterans’ Lives Matter?

The Ultimate Price For Freedom

Freedom is not something that comes for free. There is a big price for the liberties we enjoy in the United States. Our veterans unfortunately know this too well and sadly, are still waiting to receive the help that they need.

None Caring Congress For Navy Vietnam Veterans

Used with permission by John J. Bury

It has come of a common opinion amongst Vietnam War Veterans that Congress tends to exclude mostly Blue Water Vietnam Veterans for VA benefits.  This group of veterans never had boots on ground Vietnam, yet just the same they are sick due to Agent Orange exposure.  It seems Congress and the VA consider these veterans not worthy.

There are limited benefits to those who served in Country and those who served at sea are excluded, yet Agent Orange was in the drinking water onboard Navy ships causing sickness years later.  How many more of us have to die in agony until there are so few of us left that the amount of dollars to care for those left won’t matter much.  Is this what America is about none caring attitude by our legislators?  Where does it say in our Constitution and Bill of Rights that our veterans need NOT be cared for when in need?  “A man who is good enough to shed his blood for the Country is good enough to be given a square deal afterwards” Theodore Roosevelt.

Over 175,000 Navy veterans are the unsung casualties of the Vietnam War.  It is not about Democrats and Republicans, It is about Americans who fought a thankless war.  Maybe this is why Congress is reluctant to provide VA benefits, a Thankless War.

Several years past, legislative Bills have been introduced for this group of sailors only to fail in committee.  Presently there are two new Bills, House Bill HR-969 and Senate Bill S.681, both are titled The Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Agent Orange Act.  If either of these Bills are passed, Navy Veterans will receive their VA benefits.  The American people can help by calling and writing to your members of Congress and Senators to support these Bills.

During the Vietnam War, the United States military sprayed millions of gallons of Agent Orange and other herbicides on trees and vegetation. Several decades later, concerns about the health effects from these chemicals continue. One of the groups impacted by Agent Orange Dioxin poisoning is the servicemen who were at sea.  These brave men are often referred to as Blue Water Navy, which includes Coast Guard and Fleet Marine personnel.

Although it has been over forty years, there are still so many servicemen as well as their offspring who continue to suffer due to Agent Orange Dioxin poisoning. While the United States Veterans Administration offers “eligible Veterans”, a free Agent Orange Registry health exam to assess possible long-term health problems related to exposure, gathering the information is quite a task. However, there are people out there who are doing everything they can to help our veterans get the help that they need.

  1. I have lost all patriotic fantasies that our country supports our vets, or that its evwn a good option to sign up and fight for this country. We time and again end up losing so many lives. GOOD HONORABLE PEOPLE BEING CONVINCED THAT THEY R DOING A HUMBLE ,HEROIC ACT ,THAT Its KEEPING OUR LIVES SAFE. THATS NEVER THE CASE. OUR COUNTRY DOESNT SEE VETS , heros or peopleTHEY SEE PAWNS, dollar signs, , THEY WANT TO SAY AND USE PROPAGANDA OF “SUPPORT OUR TROOPS” HONOR OUR VETS BUT THATS THE ONLY WAY TO GET PEOPLE TO SIGN UP AND , THEY INTEND ON MOST TROOPS NOT COMMInG HOME. THEY R HOPING ,YES HOPING ,THEY WILL DIE. WHEN THEY RETURN HOME , ITS A DIFFERNT STORY, OFTEN VETS FEEL LIKE OUTSIDERS, WITH NEW ISSUES THAT US UNWILLING TO DIE FOR our country understand . Valid medical issues that should be quickly , easily Addressed by easily accessible doctors and medical facilities. But thats too much to ask this greedy vile country, to take care of all troops . They shouldnt ever ,ever have to worry about any medical bill, or lack if service because they should be getting BETTER MEDICAL CARE THEN OUR POLITICANS GIVE THEMSELVES!This country onky supports and values the dead vets . When the living ones return we learn , support means give them a parade, put a bumber sticker saying u support them then JUST SPITS U OUT LIKE TRASH , tell them to pull themselves up by thier bootstraps , use Slogans that put shame on them like”moocher class “if they collect benefits that r well below what GOD DAM DESERVED!!! This place is an embarrassment. The only thing that this country truly supports is cold hard cash. Money, money money its so shameful

    • There are still people who care. I tweeted out a go fund me for my dad and had 4 anonymous donors help him so that he can continue to pay for his specialists and medical appointments to get a new heart. There is hope because some humans are still willing to help out those who fought for us please consider sharing his story he can be found under Richard Gibson in GoFundMe. I will keep you updated please don’t lose hope we haven’t because when the VA abandoned my dad complete strangers stepped up to help

  2. It’s shameful how veterans who commit their lives for our freedom, get little or nothing in return for their Accidents & Sicknesses. This is also a big problem here in Canada. Canada is in election mode right now. It would be interesting to find and “hit” them with these important questions.

I sold A + S insurance some years ago. As I remember, Military and Police etc were not covered through private coverage either, so unfortunately they have few options out there. Oh actually they would cover up to $1,000 a month. Might buy them groceries and not much more!

  3. I don’t care what that GOP Congress thinks either. They are obstructionist pigs. I wish u wellness & keep fighting the good fight!

  4. This is wrong. I know how blue water navy vets got indirectly exposed. It was taking on dioxin laden water from APRA HARBOR FENA LAKE RESERVOIR. I personally handled mixed and power sprayed AGENT ORANGE HERBICIDES ON GUAM FROM SEPTEMBER 68 to Jun 78. The Guam Department of Health and Human services has proven I killed thousands of unborn babies and countless thousands of ARC LIGHT VETERANS DIRECTLY EXPOSED TO AGENT ORANGE HERBICIDES ON ANDERSEN.AFB GUAM DURING THE VIETNAM WAR AND LATER. DR Robert Haddock chief Epidemiologist has proven the TCDD DIOXIN CONTAMINATION is responsible for birth anomolies and several health epidemics including cancers, ischemic heartdisease and diabetes as well as ALS and MS.
