Drink Tea, Become An AcTEAvist!

No, this is not about politics. However, TeaParty.org’s mission does make a point. Their mission is “to bring awareness to any issue which challenges the security, sovereignty or domestic tranquility of our beloved nation, The United States of America.”

Why not apply that to something people all over the world love to drink? Perhaps there is a rhyme and a reason to combine a love of tea with helping others. I call it AcTEAvisim! As one of the top influencers on social media for environmental issues and animal rights, I am always seeking new ways to connect people with the issues that I advocate for. One of the most popular, but not necessarily new trends stems from the tea industry. 

Drink Tea, Save Elephants!

Activism is not something that pays well and the folks at ElephantTea know this. So, they decided to take a product that is globally enjoyed and combine it with a global concern- the rapid disappearance of the elephant population! The folks at ElephantTea are doing their best to do their part in protecting the last remaining wild elephants with each cup of tea sold!

“A percentage of the profit generated from the sale of ElephantTea is used to fund non-profit organizations based in Sri Lanka to help raise awareness and create proactive change as to the plight of elephants and that spearhead legal action to force the prosecution of those who are poaching, harboring and harming Sri Lankan wild elephants.”

HumaniTEArian Efforts!

Impra Teas which is owned by Imperial Teas has obtained several key certifications. I discovered these delicious teas at the Summer Fance Foods Show in NYC several years ago. The teas are packed with flavor, are delicious hot or cold and each bag is biodegradable. Imperial Teas complies with the stringent standards demanded by  their global customer base.

• Gifts of wheelchairs and prosthetic limbs to armed forces personnel.
• Continuous assistance through donation of dry rations to communities who are rendered destitute during natural disasters such as droughts, floods, etc.
• Donation of 20 Infusion Pumps to the Thalassaemia Unit of the General Hospital, Anuradhapura.
• Supplying water filters to state hospitals in Ampara, Mahoya and Dehiaththakandiya.

• Funded building of Community Center at St. Sebastian’s, Kandana.
• Donation of supplies of tea to earthquake victims in China.
• Contributions to Cochlear Implant Patients undergoing surgery at Durdans Hospital,Colombo 03.
• Co-sponsorship of inter-religious Peace Sports Festival.
• School Project – Funded the refurbishment of Minipe Primary and Secondary School, Ambagahapallasse which is located in a remote area of the Central Province of Sri Lanka. The school provides education to children from Grade 01 up to the General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level. The total student population is 420.

Although there are so many ways to help others in this world, becoming an acTEAvist is one of the more delicious ways to do so!
