Saving Your Health When You Can’t Afford The Gym

With the economy being in the current depressed state, many people are cutting corners wherever possible. One of the first to go is expensive memberships to fitness chains. Unfortunately, this is not the best solution because exercise provides an immediate release for stress. To boot, many fitness clubs are also making cutbacks on staff and equipment maintenance which can also discourage membership activity because if the machines are always broken or even worse, ridden with all sorts of bacteria, it is not really worth the money. So, what can you do? There are tons of videos and fitness shows on tv but half of the moves are not suited for the average person. After a few seconds of participation, most people tend to change the channel and resort to looking for some other alternative that is not only realistic but interactive.

Is this what you are paying for?

There are many options available but where do you start? What actually works and more importantly, what will work with the time you do have if you have a hectic schedule? Bethany Learn, the President and CEO of Fit2B Studio offered some excellent advice.

When Time Is Not On Your Side

What do you do if you can’t make it to the gym as often as you’d like? What if you don’t like gyms at all because of how germ-ridden and flesh-driven they are? I’m a stay-at-home mom who got tired of sacrificing my kids’ health for trips to the gym, and tired of sacrificing my fitness for staying home. So I designed and launched an online pilates and yoga studio for busy parents just like me! But don’t hang onto any notions that I’m some snooty, perfect housewife . In fact, here is what filming is really like for me:

what filming is REALLY like at the studio from fit2b.us online studio on Vimeo.

Two things make my alternative fitness site different than all the others out there: First, we are modest and family-friendly. I don’t jump around with my body parts exposed, and I explain everything in understandable terms. Second, we are passionate about filming fitness videos that are accessible to all movers and shakers of all ages, shapes and abilities. We have chair workouts, kid workouts, beginner workouts, and advanced workouts. We have workouts that are safe for pregnant moms or folks recovering from knee surgery (I filmed a few right after surgery myself, so I would know what my limitations were). Here is one of our free chair workouts!

I think it’s sad that many modern workouts seem to only be available to those with an expensive gym membership, or to those with lots of coordination, or to those who already have nice clothes and a nice body to match. Because where does that leave the frazzled father who can barely get away from his home office, let alone change into workout gear, load the kids in the car, take them to childcare, workout, shower, pick up the kids, drive home …. Having access to an unlimited library of workouts that stream right through your laptop or smartphone removes all those barriers!!!

It works the same way that you just watched those videos. You join. You log in. You choose a workout. You participate. You lose inches. It’s that easy. Keep the gym membership if you want, but use Fit2B Studio for the days when the gym is just too much. And the best part is that you can watch anytime, anywhere, wearing anything!

  1. I quit my gym membership almost 2 years ago! There are so many fun and easy bodyweight exercises that can be done to stay in shape and get your workout on. Plus you get to spend a lil bit more time outdoors.

  2. Great post. You don’t need to have a gym membership to stay fit. These are great tips to help those looking for safe and cost effective exercises to get in shape. Thanks for sharing.

  3. Thank you so much for having me on the show, June. It went so smoothly on my end, and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. Talking about making fitness accessible is almost as big of a passion for me as actually doing it!!! Thanks for the opportunity to share my site and business with you and your listeners today 🙂 Sorry I didn’t comment until now. The internet over here is horrible!
