A Kitchen Chemistry Lesson With Kayla Fioravanti: DIY Organic Beauty Products

For those of us that have allergies and irritations to the available beauty products on the market, it is tough to find something that works.

Most women have become so accustomed to buying a product to make their skin softer, accent cheekbones or deep condition their hair that they have forgotten that many of the ingredients in these products are in their kitchen! As a society where time has become the most valued commodity, we have lost the art of making high quality products from scratch.

Kayla has launched an entire series of DIY videos that are fun, hip and easy to understand. If you love to cook, you really should give this a whirl.

Here is her recipe for treating lice:

Head Lice Hair Masque
Head Lice Hair Masque
1 cup Organic Mayonnaise
1 tsp Tea Tree Essential Oil

Mix together thoroughly.  To use simply dampen your hair, apply a
thick layer of mayonnaise from your scalp to the ends of your hair.
Comb it through your hair from root to ends, cover with a plastic cap
or plastic wrap, and then sit back for thirty to sixty minutes and
relax, then rise and shampoo as usual.  Carefully comb through the
hair thoroughly while the hair is wet one section at a time. Wipe off
any lice or nits as you go. Pay special attention to scalp, behind the
ears and nape of the neck. Move systematically over your child’s
entire scalp area.

To avoid head lice add 2 to 5 drops tea tree essential oil to your shampoo and conditioner that you regularly use.

  5. SO SO excited!! This should be in all the schools for easy access to parents who just don’t know what to do!! I will make sure to pass this along and love how simple you made everything for us!! I still remember the day I had over 6 inches cut of my hair because I had lice! Worse day ever of my elementary years!

  12. I wished I had that when my kids were still small – they regularly brought home visitors of the parasitic kind and I never had a good product that really took care of them organically. I always felt that the products can’t be good for them and still had to use them because it was either theses products or the “parasites”.
