Exceptionally Innovative and Creative
The term ‘dyslexia’ is of Greek origin and means difficulty with words. Although it is generally perceived as a roadblock to academic achievement, dyslexia is a neurological condition unrelated to intellectual ability. In fact, according to the British Dyslexia Association, dyslexics tend to have above average problem-solving abilities and are often exceptionally innovative and highly creative. Through the ability to see the bigger picture, dyslexic’s are brilliant lateral thinkers, seeing the solutions that are outside the “box”.
A Different Approach to Spelling
According to the charity British Dyslexics, the most successful way of teaching dyslexic students is to use a structured multi-sensory technique which combines visual, auditory and kinaesthetic inputs, so that the brain receives information in many different ways and learning is continually reinforced.
Neuro linguistic programming (NLP) takes this approach even further, by introducing a visual spelling strategy. The strategy teaches students how to form mental pictures of words, which enables then to see the words rather than them “learning” how to spell them. NLP is an approach to communication, personal development, and psychotherapy. The title refers to a stated connection between the neurological processes (“neuro”), language (“linguistic”), and behavioural patterns that have been learned through experience (“programming”). NLP offers multiple techniques including reframing and goal setting, which helps dyslexic’s address the motivational and emotional issues that can improve their learning abilities with both Numeracy and Literacy.
Seeing Spells Achieving
Have you ever wished you could improve your reading, writing, spelling, maths, memory and learning skills? Seeing Spells Achieving enables you to look at things from a new perspective and enjoy a whole new world. Olive and Andrew Bendefy have devised an easy to run, practise orientated model, which teaches the reader how to visualize the words and break free from any limiting beliefs around their abilities. NLP offers a series of unblocking and transference techniques to help dyslexic’s overcome any psychological barriers that have been created.
Learning difficulties are often exacerbated by worry and stress, causing the dyslexic individual to focus on the possible negative events that might happen. Linking back to previous negative events and emotions, produced by experiences in the individual’s past. This affects an individual’s self-esteem and confidence, further compounding the worry and/or stress. Seeing Spells Achieving provides a series of tools that will enable the reader to deal with words much easier. Each section builds upon the one before, taking the reader through a series of exercises that change their perspective and spelling abilities. Dyslexia is a gift of at least above average intelligence, a change of perspective and visualisation is all that is required to reach your full potential.
