Meet The Ultimate Chicken Whisperer & Oprah Henfrey!
More and more people are raising chickens due to the inhumane practice of factory farms and use of antibiotics. For folks that wish to grow food organically, locally and sustainably, raising chickens has become the most popular method. Across America, municipalities are allowing and even encouraging residents to keep laying hens within city limits.
Expert, Patricia Foreman, author of CITY CHICKS: Keeping Micro-flocks of Chickens as Garden Helpers, Compost Makers, Bio-recyclers and Local Food Suppliers is certainly leading the way. In this book, Patricia will teach you:
- Have fresh, heart-healthy eggs, daily from your backyard home flock.
- Employ your chicken’s “skill sets” as garden workers, organic pesticides, herbiciders, fertilizers, compost creators and top soil enhancers.
- Take the best care of your flock and become a Chicken Whisperer.
- City Chicks also explores the civic side of chickens and how they can be employed as clucking city workers helping to divert food and yard waste from landfills. This can save millions of tax payer dollars.
- Be a Primary Poultry Health Care Practitioner to save on, and even avoid, vet bills.
- The Poultry’s Pharmacy shows you how to make and use effective, inexpensive home treatments.
- Draft and pass local laws allowing laying hens within your town or city.
- Avoid roosters and why you don’t want them.
- Do much, much more with chickens than you ever thought possible, including outrageous chicken tricks.

great 🙂
That’s funny, and not in the ha ha way. I live in a rural part of Florida, Lee county to be specific and they have passed laws preventing people from raising chicken even if its for the own personal egg consumption. Rumor has it that the next thing to go will be our right to grow our own vegetables. Looks like I’m going to have to move back to into the city just to get fresh eggs.
When I lived in California, we fenced off a large part of the backyard and turned it into a chicken yard. Not a peep of complaint from the neighbors, and we always had plenty of the best eggs to share around.
The peach tree in the middle of the chicken yard nearly snapped in half under the weight of a bumper crop of softball-sized peaches. Chicken fertilizer power!
We have chooks (Australian vernacular for chickens) in our suburban back yard, who roost in our lemon tree! They do have a house but a couple of years back when we got a couple of new ones they roosted in the tree, and now they all do – the lemon tree loves it and is covered in lemons almost year ’round!
Now that we have “City Chicks” we can’t imagine life without them. It is amazing how they enrich your world and provide a calming effect on one’s mood. One of our girls looks like the hen in the picture and thinks she is a lap dog.
