There is new technology that involves accessing the hot and energy rich brine in large brine reservoirs deep under the coastal regions of Texas. The goal is not to extract oil, but the super-heated water at the bottom of the 2-3 mile deep well bore that is will run through a turbine on the surface, turning it into a reliable source of electricity, feeding it into the existing grid. The Neonicotinoid View: Catastrophic Effects of Neonicotinoids on Insects & Birds - Sep 12,2012

Dr. Henk Tennekes has been involved with cancer research for most of his career. His work regarding bees began after reading an official report to the Dutch Minister of Agriculture on the decline of bees. He was amazed at the lack of information on insecticides as a possible factor in the bee decline. Dr. Tennekes then began to research the impact of neonicotinoid insecticides such as imidacloprid and clothianidin. He discovered that they were identical to those of genotoxic carcinogens. These chemicals are not only affecting the honeybees but other species that are not closely monitored such as butterflies and other insects. He began to study the food habits of declining bird species and discovered that they depended on invertebrates. Dr. Tennekes is convinced that there is a link between the use of neonics and the decline of insects and birds. Some countries such as Germany have already banned the use of these chemicals. However, if these applications are not banned, there will be an impending environmental catastrophe that is irreversible. The Neonicotinoid View: Dr. Sánchez-Bayo Discusses His Research "ImmuneSuppression by Neonicotinoid Insecticides at the Root of Global Wildlife Declines" - Sep 18,2012

In this special series called “The Neonicotinoid View” June Stoyer and special co-host, Tom Theobald will be joined by Dr. Sánchez-Bayo, Centre for Ecotoxicology, University of Technology Sydney, Australia to discuss his research on neonicotinoids. Dr Sánchez-Bayo is an ecotoxicologist and terrestrial ecologist. His main interest is risk assessment of pesticide contaminants on birds and aquatic communities, and he is currently focused on developing sampling devices for monitoring polar herbicides in environmental waters.

He developed a novel and harmless technique to assess the exposure of live birds to pesticides, for which he received an IUPAC Rhone-Poulenc Environmental Award in 1998.

He is particularly interested in modeling the time response of organisms to toxic chemicals, as a basis for improving the prediction of risk of toxicants on populations and communities of organisms.

Dr Sánchez-Bayo is currently Research Associate in the Centre for Ecotoxicology, based at the facilities of the Office of Environment & Heritage NSW in Lidcombe. He was Visiting Fellow at the University of New South Wales (1992), and worked on several post-doctoral positions at the University of Sydney (1994/2001) before taking a position as Assistant Professor at Chiba University (Japan) from 2002 to 2006.

He has taught ecotoxicology and environmental sciences to graduate and post-graduate students for several years in Japan and Australia. He has published 53 research articles in topics as diverse as bird ecology, woody weeds encroachment, ecotoxicology of pesticides and phyto-remediation of agrochemicals, and is author and editor of three books. The myth of oil scarcity is one of the foundations that have allowed four giant oil corporations along with a handful of Wall Street banks to control the worlds largest and most essential commodity: oil. The myth originated in the 1950s from a speech by a geologist at Shell and was revived in 2003 at the time of the US bombing of Iraq. The reality is quite different from the claims of Peak Oil. In reality, the world is running into oil and not running out of oil. Huge new oil and gas fields are being discovered from the eastern Mediterranean to the coast of Brazil, from East Africa to Iran and Iraq, from Norway to the Caribbean. In F. William Engdahl's newest book, "Myths, Lies and Oil Wars” discusses the little-known details of wars and manipulations designed over the past half century or more up to the wars in Africa, the Arab Spring, Iraq, all to maintain a lock-grip control of the worlds known oilfields. The Percy Schmeiser Story: A Landmark Legal Victory - Sep 26,2011

Percy Schmeiser is a canola farmer from Saskatchewan, Canada. He was the first farmer to win a law suit against Monsanto. This landmark case, which went before the Federal Court of Canada, has attracted international attention because it could help determine how much control a handful of powerful biotech companies can exert over farmers. Schmeiser believes this precedent setting agreement ensures that farmers will be entitled to reimbursement when their fields become contaminated with unwanted Roundup Ready canola or any other unwanted GMO plants. Author, Alice Feiring: Naked Wine - Sep 27,2011

Most people take for granted that when they select a wine, the ingredients are going to be pure and natural. However, as most conscious consumers know, this is not the case. There are 200 ingredients on the list of government-approved additives for wine. However, unlike food, wine manufacturers aren't required to list their ingredients (which can include animal proteins, oak chips, sulfurs, yeasts, enzymes, preservatives, and “Mega Purple” which is a brand of highly concentrated wine color) on the side label. This renders most consumers to be clueless about what exactly is in their wine and used to produce it. In the book, Naked Wine, wine expert, Alice Feiring explores these very issues as she discusses the process of natural wine making. She also explains some key questions that most consumers are confused about such as: What is the difference between natural and organic wine? What's the connection between the natural food and the natural wine movement? When did winemaking stop being an “art” and become an industry? David Bronner: Right2KnowMarch.org -GMO Labeling Right Now! - Sep 29,2011

When you buy a product, if you want to know what the ingredients are, it makes sense to simply read the label, right? Wrong! It is not so simple when it comes to finding out whether or not the ingredients used are genetically engineered. Unfortunately, there is no simple answer for Americans because it is not required that genetically engineered foods are listed. In fact, every country in the EU, Japan, as well as fifty countries in total, with over 40% of the world population mandate labeling of GMO's. So, why isn't the United States on board leading the pack? Basically because the corporations who benefit from the sale of GMO's can continue to increase their market share primarily because consumers have no way to tell whether or not the products they buy contain ingredients that have been genetically engineered. Without labels we won't know what is genetically engineered and what is not. Soon everything will be contaminated. If more people knew what was in their food and the negative impact GMO's cause, they would not spend their dollars purchasing products that contained genetically modified ingredients. So what can consumers do about this? Starting this weekend, between October 1st and October 16th, marchers from across the country will be walking from New York City to the White House, demanding labeling of all GMOs, in what has come to be called the GMO Right2Know March. This event seeks to raise national awareness and create pressure in the 2012 election for politicians to take positions and enact legislation requiring GE foods to be labeled. In many ways this march is the beginning of a new broad-based movement for GMO labeling.
