Whether you are a vegan or just simply love good food, Bryant Terry is the ultimate chef to learn from when it comes to eating well and being a conscious consumer. Regardless of the fact that he is an award-winning chef and food justice activist, his creativity and inspiration make even the take out gurus want to explore the possibilities that exist in their kitchen. Mike Stafford -Are There Moral & Ethical Issues Defending The Environment? - May 02,2012
When you think about the world we live in, it almost seems surreal. Considering the myriad of issues with our health, environment and relationships with other living beings, our modern society resembles something that could be found in Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World. Whether it is the fight to label GMO’s on our food, the quick fix in a pill to relieve us of everything from depression to potential pregnancy, to the lack of respect for our own environment for the sake of increased market share, we do have, as human beings, the moral and ethical issues to consider. Tune in to this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, as host, June Stoyer is joined by special guest Mike Stafford. Michael Stafford is a nationally syndicated political columnist through Cagle Cartoons. His writing has been featured on numerous blogs including FrumForum, Coffee Party USA, The Cagle Post, and TommyWonk, as well as in The Dialog (the newspaper for the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington, Delaware). He is also a regular contributor to Town Square Delaware. Politically, Mr. Stafford formerly served on both the Delaware State Republican Committee and on the New Castle County Republican Committee. He remains active in politics as the Delaware Coordinator for Republicans for Environmental Protection. Mr. Stafford earned his Juris Doctorate from Duke University School of Law and practices law in Wilmington, Delaware. Stay Tuned!

Beth Hillson: Countdown & Cupcakes For Celiac Awareness - May 04,2012
Countdown and Cupcakes is an event is sponsored by the American Celiac Disease Alliance, a not-for-profit organization that advocates for the needs of celiac and gluten-sensitive patients. Last year, on August 2, the anniversary of the passage of the Food Allergen Labeling and Protection Act (FALCPA) and two months after the Gluten Free Labeling Summit, FDA announced it would allow 60 more days of comments on the gluten free labeling proposal. Among the letters was one signed by nearly 5,000 individuals urging the FDA to require products labeled gluten-free to meet a set standard not to exceed 20ppm, the same standard adopted for use in the international community. The month of May has been designated Celiac Awareness month. In this segment of The Organic View, best-selling author, Beth Hillson, founder of Gluten-Free Pantry, President of the American Celiac Disease Alliance and editor of Living Without Magazinewill be our guest to talk about this initiative.

Why Did Connecticut Cave With The GMO Right To Know? - May 05,2012
The battle to mandate GMO labeling in the state of Connecticut looked very promising. 90% of the CT residents polled supported mandatory GMO labeling. Early vote counts within the legislature showed the majority of legislators were in favor of this bill. However, in recent developments, it has been found that this bill has now been eviscerated. According to former New York City prosecutor Tara Cook-Littman, “The constitutional argument is absurd, and everyone knows it. As long as Connecticut law makers had a legitimate state interest that was reasonably related to the labeling of products produced from the process of genetic engineering, the GMO labeling bill would be considered constitutional by any court of law." Cook-Littman, a CT resident, is the co-founder of Right To Know CT, along with Analiese Paik. She stated that representatives and senators who learned of Friday night’s political maneuverings are equally disgusted. Littman says, “it appears that the biotech industry’s influence was in place all along, waiting for this tactic to be deployed at the last minute, with no time to argue before the vote.” Tune in to this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, as host, June Stoyer is joined by special guests Analiese Paik, Tara Cook-Littman co-founders of Right To Know CT. Also joining the conversation will be renowned GMO activist, Jeffrey Smith, Executive Director of the Institute for Responsible Technology.

Jeffrey Smith Talks About The Future of GMO Labeling! - May 10,2012
In lieu of the recent events in the state of CT, regarding HB 5117 which would have required the labeling of foods containing GMOs was downgraded ( removing a key provision requiring the labeling of all foods containing GMOs) it is clear that the battle for consumers to rightfully know whether or not food contains genetically modified ingredients is going to be intense. With biotech stocks remaining strong combined with all of the elaborate advertising promoting GMO’s as “being able to feed the rapidly growing overpopulated world” the question still remains, why won’t the biotech industry label something they are so proud of? If farmers can look forward to a lucrative and sustainable future, why are there so many law suits popping up against the biotech giants filed by farmers who won’t fall in line? Has biotech monopolized agriculture in such a way that farmers have no choice but to succumb to the rules set by these corporations with deep pockets prohibiting the possibilities for a future in organic farming? Tune in to this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, as host, June Stoyer is joined by Jeffrey Smith to discuss this battle! Smith, who has been praised as, “the best science communicator alive today” is the leading consumer advocate promoting healthier non-GMO choices. His first nonfiction book, Seeds of Deception, quickly became the world’s bestselling and #1 rated book on the subject. His second book, Genetic Roulette, demystifies the 65 health risks of GM foods with simple tables and sidebars. Jeffrey is the Executive Director of the Institute for Responsible Technology, a world leader in GMO education, and publisher of the Non-GMO Shopping Guide. Stay Tuned!

Author,Steve Lerner -Sacrifice Zones - May 11,2012
Across the US, thousands of people, most of them in low-income or minority communities, live next to heavily polluting industrial sites. Many of them reach a point at which they say "enough is enough." After living for years with poisoned air and water, contaminated soil, and pollution-related health problems, they start to take action--organizing, speaking up, documenting the effects of pollution on their neighborhoods. In Sacrifice Zones, author, Steve Lerner tells the stories of twelve communities, from Brooklyn to Pensacola, that rose up to fight the industries and military bases causing disproportionately high levels of chemical pollution. He calls these low-income neighborhoods "sacrifice zones." And he argues that residents of these sacrifice zones, tainted with chemical pollutants, need additional regulatory protections. Sacrifice Zones goes beyond the disheartening statistics and gives us the voices of the residents themselves, offering compelling portraits of accidental activists who have become grassroots leaders in the struggle for environmental justice and details the successful tactics they have used on the fence line with heavy industry. Joel Salatin "Folks, This Ain’t Normal!" - May 14,2012
Thanks to decades of clever mass marketing campaigns, the average person has become completely disconnected with how our food is grown and also what real food should look like. With the agro-chemical companies chiming away that “there is going to be a food shortage if we don’t produce more food and decrease the world population in order for everyone to survive,” the reality is most people do not have a clue as to how their food is produced, where it is grown or how it is grown. Processed foods, initially created with the intention to save time, are simply not a healthy choice. Some of these processed, ready to “heat and serve” products made with “real chicken” are breaded, seasoned and disguised in all sorts of geometrical shapes so that children will be encouraged to eat them. Meanwhile, the average child who primarily consumes this type of food has no idea what a chicken looks like, sounds like or the fact that chickens are smart, loving beings. It takes a true organic farmer to really get the point across about the benefits of growing organics and eating organics. Joel Salatin is an organic farmer from Virginia who talks about the problems he sees not only as an organic farmer but as a consumer of organic foods. In hisbest-selling book, Folks, This Aint Normal: A Farmers Advice for Happier Hens, Healthier People, and a Better World he takes us into his world as he talks about how our food is produced and why we ought to take a closer look at where and how our food is produced. Tune in to this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, as host, June Stoyer is joined by special guest Joel Salatin!
Does Food Matter? Dr. Karen Giblin -Eat To Defeat Menopause - May 15,2012
Every four minutes an American woman enters menopause and with an ever-increasing life expectancy rate, that woman can spend as much as one third of her life going through “the change.” However, despite the inevitability and importance of menopause in a woman’s life, the discussion of this challenging transitional period is often riddled with myths, uncertainties, and trepidation. In Eat to Defeat Menopause: The Essential Nutrition Guide for a Healthy Midlife—with 130 Recipes, Karen Giblin and Mache Seibel, MD, two of the nation’s top menopause experts, break down the most important, need-to-know facts about menopause, offer tips and advice for combating its symptoms, and provide healthy and enticing recipes guaranteed to satisfy every craving (or mood swing). Combining the latest research on menopause, traditions from their Italian and Jewish families, and recipes from chefs across the United States, Giblin and Seibel show that making simple changes to one’s lifestyle can, in many cases, be just as effective as combating menopausal symptoms with the latest drugs and surgeries. Some of these simple changes can include: Eating foods that contain phytoestrogens, such as soy and garlic, to combat hot flashes and insomnia Stabilizing mood swings by eating omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin B Cooking with avocados, chocolate, asparagus, or chile peppers to improve a decreased sex drive Reducing alcohol intake to ward off headaches, hot flashes, insomnia, and mood swings Whether readers are personally experiencing the “change” or just want to arm themselves with information and healthful eating habits for the road ahead, Eat to Defeat Menopause provides an easy and delicious guide for achieving a healthy (and hot-flash-free) midlife. Susan Thixton -Deciphering The Diamond Pet Food Recall - May 16,2012
In a press release issued on April 6, 2012, “Diamond Pet Foods voluntarily recalled a limited number of dry dog food bags due to a potential health risk. Recall is limited to one formula of Diamond Naturals distributed to 12 states; no illnesses reported.” The situation became more intense as more details were revealed and more products were added. Pet food activist and expert, Susan Thixton has been investigating this recall, trying to help petsumers find out what they really need to know and which products to avoid. “The original recalls were for dog food only, cat food was not mentioned. But somewhere along this process, cat food began being recalled too - without much public warnings. The information still isnt clear about cat foods. The Diamond Recall Information website states "certain batches of several brands of dog and cat food produced in its Gaston, South Carolina plant" have been recalled. However as of this posting, none of the notices on the Diamond Recall Information website provides the specific information which brands of cat food are included”-Susan Thixton Tune in to this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, as host, June Stoyer is joined by special guest, Susan Thixton, Founder of Truth About Pet Food about what you need to know about this recall!Stay tuned!

Dr Tallamy -Creating Sustainability by Bringing Nature Home - May 17,2012
Biodiversity is something that clearly affects all species. Everything is connected to each other regardless of whether or not it is on a large or small scale. Sometimes the way we garden can actually improve our landscape and at times, can be disastrous. Such is the case with the introduction of invasive species such as Kudzu, Purple loosestrife, etc. Nevertheless, there are choices we can make that can positively impact our landscape according to the plants we select and what we introduce into the landscape. Our choices not only affect our view of the land but can also impact animals, insects and microorganisms that are dependent upon the role of such plants. In essence, human beings have the power to sustain life or destroy it because of these choices. In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer will speak to Dr. Douglas Tallamy about his magnificent book, Bringing Nature Home which explores the impact of our choices and what we can do to sustain wildlife in our own back yard!

Ann Louise Gittleman -The Hazards Of Electronic Pollution - May 18,2012
In today’s world, it is impossible to avoid technology. We use it to make our coffee in the morning, text messages to friends, microwave food and work on laptops. We’re being zapped! Today 84 % of Americans own a cell phone, 89 million of us watch TV beamed in by satellite and we can’t sip a cup of coffee at our local cafe without being exposed to Wi-Fi. The very electronic innovations that have changed our lives are also exposing us, in ways big and small, to an unprecedented number of electromagnetic fields. Invisible pollution surrounds us 24/7, interrupting our bodies’ natural flow of energy. And for some, that pollution has reached the point of toxicity, causing fatigue, irritability, weakness, and even illness. But we don’t have to simply surrender. Ann Louise Gittleman brings forth the latest research into electromagnetic fields to create this groundbreaking guide for every citizen of the wireless age. With the proactive, levelheaded approach that has made her one of our most respected health experts, she not only clarifies the risks but also offers specific, step-by-step information for how anyone can minimize them. From where you place your sofa to when you use your cell phone to what you eat for dinner, Zapped is packed with strategies for avoiding and mitigating the damaging effects of electropollution. As she examines modern life room by room, device by device, Gittleman reveals a master plan for detoxifying your surroundings and protecting yourself and your family. We don’t need to abandon our homes or even give up our PDAs to be healthier and happier. Based on the latest scientific data, case studies, and Gittleman’s years of clinical practice, Zapped is an empowering guide to living safely with the gadgets we can’t live without. Bee Friendly Zone -Making The World A Safer Place For Bees! - May 22,2012
Bees of all species, as well as other insects, are declining in numbers because of the increased use of agricultural chemicals, the destruction of their natural habitat and the accidental importation of diseases and parasites. A Bee-Friendly Zone is a safe place where bees and other insects can nest, forage for pollen and nectar and go about their business without coming into contact with potentially toxic chemicals. Phil Chandler, an activist, educator and radio show host of The Barefoot Beekeeper which is the most popular radio show about beekeeping has come up with a plan! Phil has recently launched his own initiative called www.beefriendlyzone.com which encourages people all over the world to create a pesticide, friendly environment that bees can safely exist. Children of Vietnam Veterans & Those Exposed To Agent Orange - May 24,2012
The Children of Vietnam Veterans and Those Exposed To Agent Orange & Dioxin is an organization founded by children of Vietnam Veterans dedicated to finding justice, finding answers and offering support for the generational victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin. This is the first group of its kind because it was founded by children of Vietnam Veterans who desperately want our peers to no longer feel alone. They acknowledge the vast amount of people around the globe who have come into contact with Agent Orange such as Americans, Australians, Vietnamese, Koreans, Canadians, Japanese, People of Guam and many more. Because the generational victims are rarely recognized, COVVHA seeks to collectively bring about change and make the voices of those affected heard.
Kelly L. Derricks is the daughter of deceased Vietnam Veteran Harry C. Mackel, Jr. Harry died in 1982 at the age of 37 after being exposed to Agent Orange while serving two tours in Vietnam in addition to a tour on Johnston Island. After serving with the United States Air Force, Harry went on to serve the City of Philadelphia as a highly regarded and awarded officer of the Stakeout Unit with the police department. Kelly was only seven years old when her father died.
Kelly has been working as an independent Agent Orange/Dioxin advocate since early 2007. She has expanded her work under the name “Truth Teller” to legislative areas, environment and agriculture, public speaking, blog authoring, and medical awareness, while tying everything back to encompass her main platform of seeking justice for those exposed. In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer talks to Kelly Derricks. Stay tuned!
