Are We Destroying Available Food Sources For Honeybees? - Feb 05,2013
There is a great deal of concern that our honeybees do not have enough food to eat because of the amount of pesticides being used. However, most homeowners do not realize that their demand for pristine lawns and continuously flowering plants that have low to zero maintenance are a huge part of the problem. The lack of food not only effect honeybees but other pollinators such as butterflies. Are we sacrificing sources of food so that our yards can be free from the site of plants such as clover, and dandelions, etc? Even roadside maintenance poses an issue as wildflowers and other beneficial plants are mowed down for aesthetics. Is there anything we can really do to keep our yards looking nice and not take away food from pollinators? In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer talks to Dr. Vera Krischik about how we can help pollinators by practicing IPM (Integrated Pest Management) and take an active role in replenishing available food sources. Dr. Krischik is an Associate Professor in the Dept. of Entomology at the U of Minnesota and an Extension Specialist in Landscape Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Stay tuned!

The NLP View: A Critical Review of The Effectiveness of NLP - Feb 08,2013
Over the years NLP has become utilized in a myriad of contexts in order to achieve a specific result. Unfortunately there have been some instances where combined approaches have resulted in confusion and undesirable affects. For example, if an NLP technique used for business has been applied in a therapeutic context, it will not have the desired effect and has led to question the efficacy of NLP. This has commonly occurred when enthusiastic students have applied what they have been taught, often without the full comprehension of the technique's underlying psychology and the ecology assessment required before the technique can be used. There is a need for clear delineation between the business, clinical and coaching applications of NLP, which is gradually being addressed by the work done through the ANLP and The NLP Research and Recognition Project (R and R). R and R is an organization which seeks to develop a program to network, support and participate in the long needed research of NLP. The organization also gathers the recognition necessary for its widespread practice. The aim is to provide basic scientific validity for NLP and establish NLP treatment centers of excellence for certain “diseases” such as asthma, phobias, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress, depression, etc. as well as adjunctive health aids. Tune in to this segment of The NLP View Radio Show, as host, Donna Blinston R.N. is joined by author, Lisa Wake to discuss her best-selling book, Clinical Effectiveness of Neuro-Linguistic Programming-A Critical Appraisal and research into current evidence of the clinical efficacy of NLP techniques. Stay Tuned!
