When his favorite cat Biscuit goes missing, Peter Trachtenberg sets out to find her. The journey takes him 700 miles and many years into his past-- into the history of his relationships with cats and the history of his relationship with his wife F., who may herself be on the verge of disappearing. What ensues is a work that recalls travel narratives from The Incredible Journey to W. G. Sebald's The Rings of Saturn. Trachtenberg ponders the mysteries of feline intelligence (why do cats score worse on some tests than pigeons?), the origins of their domestication, their terrible treatment during the Middle Ages. He also looks at the riddle of why any of us loves whom we love and all the unforeseen places to which that devotion leads us. The Myths and Realities Of The Obesity Epidemic -Dec 01,2015

The Christmas season has arrived along with the holiday fare. Most people often associate their weight gain because of the food choices they make throughout the season. However, there are holidays all throughout the year that can be associated with weight gain. Weight gain and weight loss happen all year long regardless of a particular holiday. Award-winning writer Harriet Brown set out to explore our relentless obsession with weight and thinness—with surprising results. In Body of Truth, Brown tackles the myths and realities of the “obesity epidemic,” exposing the biggest lies driving the rhetoric of obesity. With provocative prose and razor-sharp wit, she examines our tendency to find weight scapegoats (sugar and wheat are the current favorites), gives historical and contemporary context for what it means to be “fat” (making a strong case that it’s not a dirty word), and offers ways for all of us to think about weight and health with more nuance, accuracy, and respect. In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host June Stoyer talks to Harriet Brown author of the best-selling book, Body of Truth, How Science, History, and Culture Drive Our Obsession with Weight--and What We Can Do About It. There are numerous veterans in America and abroad who are in dire need of medical assistance but are still unable to get the help they need. Although millions of dollars were spent for the wars they fought in, healthcare for those who served was not part of the budget. So many veterans have died waiting for help that never arrived. However, there is an organization that is trying to help the last remaining veterans called Military Veterans Advocacy, Inc. This non-profit organization’s mission is to provide training and education services for military and veterans concerning rights & benefits. Defend unjustly accused military members before courts-martial and administrative tribunals. Through legislative advocacy protect and expand the rights and benefits of current and former members of the armed forces. Act decisively to protect the freedom of religion within the military services. In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer talks to Mr. John Wells, the Executive Director of Military Veterans Advocacy, Inc. about his efforts to help other veterans get the help that they need. Mr. Wells is a retired Navy Commander (Surface Warfare) and a disabled veteran, who served from 1972 until 1994.
