Michael Potter Discusses GMO Labeling: What’s Really Behind The Label?

Thanks to smart phones and computers, with just a few simple clicks, information is easily accessible to everyone. However, this is not the case when it comes to our food. When you take a closer look at food labeling requirements, clarity is not pretty!

Would You Buy It If You Really Knew What Was In It?

Shouldn't babies have the right to know what is in their food?

Shouldn't babies have the right to know what is in their food?

Would you knowingly buy your baby’s favorite box of cereal if you knew it contained ingredients that could negatively impact his or her health? Of course not! However, in the United States, food manufacturers are NOT required by law to specify whether or not the ingredients in the products they sell contain or are made with genetically engineered ingredients.

Being A Conscious Consumer Means Being A Food Detective

Would you eat mystery meat ?

Our food should be clearly labeled but it is not. We should not have to question what is REALLY in our food.

It is up to the conscious consumer to investigate the company, find out what certifications they have, what country they are sourcing ingredients from and if they are producing in an ethical manner. In other words, buyer beware! In order for a consumer to really know what is in the product, they must be able to rely upon the manufacturer to clearly state every ingredient used to make the product and that what is listed on the label is what they are buying. There should be no mystery or dissertation required to understand what manufactures are using. It should be crystal clear. Unfortunately, until this is mandated, manufacturers will continue to sell their products as is to uninformed consumers that don’t understand the impacts of GMO’s.

Can I Get A Car Fax For Food?

Should there be a car fax for food?

It is interesting that it is mandated by law that before you purchase a car, the seller must fully disclose anything and everything to the buyer. Thanks to companies like Car Fax, the consumer can know exactly what he or she is buying. Why is this not the case with our food? How many class action law suits must take place before it is mandated?

  1. I have always been content to read a label and find ingredients that I could pronounce, recognize and understand. However, this whole GMO thing brings up new aspects of food labeling. So if I had a choice between gmo and non, I’d go with the most natural. Most moms would 🙂

  2. It is so hard to believe that the US does NOT require GMO labeling on food products!! What is wrong with this picture? Most people assume that GMO is just CORN and really how do you know? There is only one word for this ‘FAIL’ and it is all very disturbing.

  3. Labeling . that is my problem not only me, my family my friends .. sometimes the labeling is meaningless , the labeling is written by a tiny small letters which is totally unreadable, in addition it is not mentioned if IT IS ORGANIC or GMO either if some unnatural colors was added & so …
In my opinion, if everybody is refusing to buy a product badly labeled or if the labeling is not covering what we need to know ..I think the companies who are in charge will think twice before distributing the product in the markets !

  4. I’m unclear why organic companies don’t fight to have non-gmo as part of the certification. Too many labels.too many things to remember. I am at a point where I am going to buy imported only. Come on USA, get it together!

  5. It is always interesting to hear stories about people, especially ones that make a difference. To solve any problem, here are three questions to ask yourself: First, what could I do? Second, what could I read? And third, who could I ask? It is great to hear information from someone who can do something about Monsanto and that is doing the right thing. Great show!

  6. Very good interview. It is important to hear from the people involved with the industry. You see people in other industries all the time but not in organics. In fact, it is refreshing to hear the truth from the source instead of what mainstream media allows. The only time you hear about organic companies is in magazines. I do not buy them because they also have ads for Big Pharma. It doesn’t make sense. Anyway, you are very thorough and in any event I did enjoy the interview. Looking forward to listening each day.

  7. Hello there, You have done a great job. I’ll certainly digg it and personally suggest to my friends. I’ll follow you on Twitter and facebook too!
